Real-Time Imaging With Simultaneous Use of Born and Rytov Approximations in Quantitative Microwave Holography

Microwave and millimeter-wave measurements acquire total-field responses from measurements, yet imaging algorithms instead require the data in form of scattered-field responses. Two approaches exist for extraction responses, namely, Born Rytov approximations. It is well known that, depending on target’s size, contrast, structural complexity, one approximation can achieve an improved accuracy over other. Yet, rarely used microwave imaging, likely due to phase-unwrapping problems occurring case strongly heterogeneous electrically large targets. Here, we propose a method utilize approximations simultaneously single inversion step real-time with quantitative holography (QMH). We show through examples simulated experimental that near-field scenarios, including breast-tissue phantom, there are significant benefits employing new method.
